Judges at the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal in the Hague have pushed back by two days the planned start of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic’s trial.
His trial on 11 charges, including two counts of genocide, is now tentatively scheduled to begin on October 21.
Presiding Judge O-Gon Kwon blamed “administrative reasons” for the delay, but did not elaborate.
Mr Kwon said today the trial could still be further delayed. Karadzic has demanded more time to prepare his defence and appeals judges are still considering the request.
Karadzic is charged with orchestrating atrocities carried out by Serb forces throughout the 1992-95 war, including the siege of Sarajevo and the 1995 Srebrenica massacre. He denies the charges.
