Iceland has repaid all of its obligations to the IMF ahead of schedule.
The country had borrowed around 1.8 billion euro from the IMF in a deal struck in 2008 and repaid the last 292 million of that today.
The final amount wasn't due until August of 2016.
Back in March Iceland withdrew its bid to join the European Union, saying its interests are best served outside the 28-nation bloc.
EU spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said the EU would “fully respect such a decision”, and underlined that Iceland remains an important partner.
Iceland started membership negotiations in 2010 looking to better anchor itself to Europe two years after its economy imploded amid a banking collapse.
