Man who took part of Saddam statue has some cheek

The Iraqi government is demanding the return of a butt cheek seized from Saddam Hussein's statue.

The Iraqi government is demanding the return of a butt cheek seized from Saddam Hussein's statue.

Nigel 'Spud' Ely – who is formerly of the SAS – was guarding a camera crew who were filming Iraqis pulling the figure down in 2003, and he picked up the 2ft bronze buttock and brought it back to the UK.

The 52 year old has now turned the butt cheek into a piece of art and claims this makes him the legal owner.

He was quoted by The Sun newspaper: "When I got it, it was just a piece of scrap metal. I am only doing this to raise money for military charities.

"If the Iraqis want to split the proceeds to give some to Iraqi charities, I am happy to listen."
