His father Kevin was interviewed on Talksport and his answers don’t make for reassuring listening for Ireland fans.
He seemed keen to emphasize that both he and son Jack are English-born.
“My parents are Irish and my wife’s father is also Irish,” Grealish said. “I was born in Birmingham and Jack was born in Solihull. That’s where we’re from.
“He just played for Ireland at the age of 14 and we just went with the flow.”
He acknowledged the extra interest in Jack’s future since the FA Cup semi-final.
“Now everyone is talking a bit more seriously about it now and wants to know what he’s going to do,” he said.
“It’s going to be a difficult decision. It’s completely up to Jack though.”
He then jokingly suggested: “There’s a friendly coming up, so maybe he could play 45 minutes for England and then for Ireland!”
Any hint of Grealish choosing to play for England is that last thing Ireland fans want to hear.
