McGeeney appointed as new Armagh manager

Kieran McGeeney has been handed a five-year term as Armagh’s new senior football manager.

In a widely anticipated move, the Armagh county board ratified the move at a meeting on Wednesday night and issued a statement confirming the appointment.

“Bord Contae Ard Mhacha are delighted to announce the appointment of Kieran McGeeney as manager of the senior football team.

"The County Board would like to express our best wishes to Kieran.

"The County Board hope that under Kieran McGeeney’s leadership this promising team can achieve the success yearned for by the county and its loyal supporters.”

McGeeney had worked as assistant to outgoing manager Paul Grimley this season and was seen as the natural successor having spent the previous six years as manager of the Kildare senior football team.

McGeeney’s appointment has been widely welcomed in Armagh, where he was a legendary player for the county from 1992-2007, winning six Ulster titles and an All-Ireland along the way.
