Brolly: ‘I am still cringing’ about Morrissey insult

The RTE statement also said Morrissey had “graciously accepted” an apology from Brolly.
Brolly addressed the controversy today in his weekly column for gaeliclife.com. He said he’d been joking around before the broadcast and this had influenced his comments.
“Myself and Tomas O’Se had been having a laugh with stewards and supporters outside just before we went on air,” he explained. “All jokes and craic.
“Problem is that when we went on air a few minutes later, it wasn’t the Oliver Callan Show, but the Sunday Game.”
He said Morrissey accepted his apology, but had been hurt by the remarks.
“Marty Morrissey is a decent, good humoured man,” Brolly wrote. “When I apologised to him he was quick to accept it. But there is no doubt he was hurt.
“It was a very poor thing to say and I am still cringing about it as I write this.”
RTE’s statement made clear that the acerbic Derryman will have to watch his tongue carefully in the future, saying: “similar comments in any future broadcast cannot and will not be tolerated”.
