As the closing stages of the classic All-Ireland final between Tipperary and Kilkenny was unfolding on the hallowed turf of Croke Park, two men that know a thing or two about hurling’s biggest day were bringing the drama to thousands from high above in the stand.
Broadcaster Marty Morrisey and his co-commentator and former All-Ireland winning Cork goalie, Donal Óg Cusack’s commentary on the game for RTÉ Radio One transmitted the drama, tension and emotion of events perfectly to the masses listening in across the globe.
All credit to Cusack who even managed to channel fellow Corkman Roy Keane in the closing stages, employing his now infamous phrase in praise of John ‘Bubbles’ O’Dwyer.
It was raw passion and excitement from the two commentators and luckily for all concerned, they’ll have to do it all over again in three weeks’ time.
