A bomb exploded near a military convoy in a tribal region in north-western Pakistan today, killing one soldier and wounding five, an intelligence official said.
The army troops were on a security patrol near Sra Shakara, a village in North Waziristan tribal area, when the bomb went off, hitting one pickup in a convoy of five vehicles, the official said.
Arab, Central Asian and Afghan Islamic militants as well local tribesmen linked with the Taliban militia of Afghanistan operate in the region and they are blamed for roadside bombings and rocket attacks targeting security forces in the region.
