Two killed in Co Monaghan accident

A man and a woman died in a single car collision on the Dublin to Derry road, north of Castleblaney in Co Monaghan.

A man and a woman died in a single car collision on the Dublin to Derry road, north of Castleblaney in Co Monaghan.

The accident happened shortly after 5.30pm today. Another woman in her 30s, who was travelling with them, was injured in the accident.

This brings to four the number of people killed on the roads this weekend. A 15-year-old boy was killed, when the van in which he was a passenger collided with a tree in Birr in Offaly on Friday.

The fourth victim was a man who died in a single vehicle crash at Newtownforbes in Co Longford at 4.30am today.

He was killed when the truck he was driving hit a ditch.
