SF predicts talks on united Ireland within decade

Sinn Féin chairman Mitchel McLaughlin has predicted that negotiations on a united Ireland will take place within a decade.

Sinn Féin chairman Mitchel McLaughlin has predicted that negotiations on a united Ireland will take place within a decade.

Speaking at the launch of a Sinn Féin policy document in Belfast today, Mr McLaughlin said:

"In 10 years time, we will be sitting ‘round a table with unionists and nationalists, with the Irish and British Governments, and we will be negotiating the constitutional future of this island."

The Foyle MLA was commenting as Sinn Féin celebrated its recent gains in the Irish general election, when it increased its number of TDs from one to five.
