Volunteerism on the way out, youth leaders say

The number of people becoming volunteer workers has seriously declined, according to the National Youth Federation.

The Federation has called on the nation's employers to reward volunteerism outside the workplace.

Spokesman Gearoid O'Maoilmhicil said that one way of showing recognition would be to grant volunteers additional leave.

He said there were several reasons for the decline, not least the upturn in the economy.
