The debate over the dangers of drink continues with the revelation that alcohol plays a part in some 55,000 deaths involving under 29-year-olds across Europe each year.
The figures, compiled by the World Health Organisation, include road accidents, poisoning, suicide and murders connected with drink.
The figures come as health experts here and across Europe, call for a major review of the way the drink industry markets its proposals.
Last week Health Minister Michael Martin launched a major campaign here - but his views have clashed with those of his colleague Tom Kitt on the issue of deregulating the pub trade.
