The High Court has heard that Denis O'Brien is trying to stop RTÉ reporting on his loan arrangements with IBRC "as a matter of principle".
The businessman also believes that revealing confidential details of his loan facilities with the State-owned bank will damage him commercially.
Barrister Michael Cush stated: "If he let's this go, what's next? Where does it stop?" as he set down Mr O'Brien's case to try stop RTÉ broadcasting details of the businessman's loan facilities with IBRC.
Mr O'Brien is seeking to injunct the Six One News report which RTÉ claims is in the public interest because it focuses on the governance of IBRC amid concerns about the bailed-out bank's handling of large loans.
The State broadcaster says there is nothing to suggest Mr O'Brien engaged in any wrongdoing.
In an affidavit opened to the court, Mr O'Brien expressed concern that if he is unsuccessful in securing an injunction, then his private banking affairs will be "fair game" for the media.
The case continues.
