Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams has hit back at Justice Minister Michael McDowell after he accused the party of being of being “completely subservient” to the IRA.

Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams has hit back at Justice Minister Michael McDowell after he accused the party of being of being “completely subservient” to the IRA.

Speaking at the launch of his party’s local and European election campaigns in Dublin today. Mr Adams said the Justice Minister was jeopardising the peace process by pushing his own agenda to become leader of the Progressive Democrats.

Mr Adams said Mr McDowell had recycled the same old allegations against Sinn Féin and the accusations would only benefit Ian Paisley and the DUP.

The Sinn Féin president said he could not understand what contribution the minister was making to the peace process.
