The family of Barry Davis Ryan have thanked rescue crews who helped search for his body.
The remains of the 20-year-old were pulled from the waters off Baltimore, West Cork, yesterday 11 days after he drowned alongside his father, Barry Ryan.
The pair had been trying to rescue the young man's girlfriend, Niamh O'Connor, who was fatally swept out to sea by a freak wave.
The 20-year-old student was recovered about 200m from where he was last seen alive by his sister Charlotte as a family walking trip, last week, turned to tragedy.
His body was located on the seabed in 24m of water, partially covered by sand and seaweed.
The discovery had been made at lunchtime, just before the search was about to be called off due to deteriorating conditions. Three dive teams remained in the water when the discovery was made at 1pm.
The breakthrough came after an emotional appeal earlier this week from Barry's mother, Ann Davis, for experienced divers to come and help local search teams.
The formal identification of the final victim has taken place and the Ryan family, including his mother and an uncle, have thanked all those who defied stormy conditions to join the search.
Barry's girlfriend Niamh and his dad Barry had been laid to rest last weekend.
The young man’s remains will repose at the Sacred Heart Church, Rath, tomorrow from 5pm to 7pm and be buried in Baltimore on Monday.
