Police have used baton charges and water cannon to quell Loyalist crowds who are still protesting at the police barricades in Drumcree.

Despite the parade passing along its alternative route without any reports of violence crowds remain at the barrier that was erected to prevent access to the Garvaghy Road.

Running battles began to break out at about 2.00pm as the British Army attempted to bring in a reserve barricade to strengthen the defences.

Police lines were attacked with missiles and there are reports emerging of members of the Orange Order being involved in stone-throwing and minor scuffles with police despite the Order being earlier praised by the police for their good behaviour throughout the march.

Reports of injuries that have been sustained amongst the police are also emerging as 15 officers are walking wounded with seven others requiring hospital care.

One officer has a reported broken arm and at least one protester has also suffered a broken arm.

The tensions at the scene is also said to have greatly increased.
