The Taoiseach today described critics of the Government on cost overruns as "sad".

The Taoiseach today described critics of the Government on cost overruns as "sad".

Bertie Ahern travelled through the Port Tunnel in Dublin this afternoon, which is scheduled to open next summer.

The tunnel will end up costing €751m - €170m up on the figure quoted when construction began.

Mr Ahern said most infrastructural projects were ahead of schedule and on budget: “Eighteen of the 21 projects that are around the country at the moment are either ahead or on schedule, and of the three that are not, they have documented the reasons behind them.”
