Ikea unmoved by DJ's prank

Bosses at Ikea threw out a bunch of pranksters who staged a World Cup stunt outside their flagship store.

Bosses at Ikea threw out a bunch of pranksters who staged a World Cup stunt outside their flagship store.

The jokers parked an articulated lorry at the entrance bearing an enormous billboard painted with the England flag.

It predicted a 2-0 defeat for Sweden when the two teams meet on Sunday.

Ikea executives at the store in Wembley, north-west London, objected to the idea and ejected them from the car park.

Virgin Radio DJ Daryl Denham came up with the stunt in retaliation for a Swedish radio station's decision to ban all English music until after the England v Sweden clash.

Stockholm-based Rock Klassiker is also asking listeners to sign an anti- Sven Goran Eriksson petition.

Denham urged his listeners to go one better and bin any Swedish records they own:

"We're planning to hold a Roxette and Ace of Bass amnesty where people can drop off all their naff Swedish pop records for incineration.

"Surely that's a better scenario than the humiliation of these albums being discovered in your personal record collection," he said.

Ikea said they saw the funny side of the stunt and admitted that staff at their stores were torn over who to support on Sunday.

"Over the years Sweden has given England some great things - Sven Goran Eriksson, Ulrika Jonsson, Abba and of course Ikea. But we agree with Daryl that some Swedish music is, how can we put it, an acquired taste," a spokeswoman said.
