Biscan to face Everton

Igor Biscan has been told he is definitely playing in the derby battle with Everton.

The young Croatian, regularly on the sidelines this season for Liverpool, will play in the heart of defence alongside Djimi Traore because Stephane Henchoz is not fit enough to make a comeback.

With Sami Hyypia suspended, Liverpool are forced into this makeshift back line against Everton, featuring rising star Wayne Rooney, at Goodison Park.

Defender Henchoz returned to Liverpool on Friday following a calf operation in his native Switzerland with fleeting hopes he would be fit for a reserve run-out at Manchester City today and then a comeback at Goodison.

But boss Gerard Houllier has already given up on that.

Houllier said: “It’s a big game for Igor, but he will play.

“I have faith in him. Anyone who has seen him play at centre-half this season will know his qualities.

“He has pace, power and strength to play in that position. It’s unfortunate that Stephane won’t make the derby.”

Danny Murphy (neck) and El-Hadji Diouf (shin) should recover from injuries and be available to face their fierce rivals.
