Newmill finds himself faced with a rather simpler task at Punchestown this weekend than on his previous outing 10 days ago.
In the Normans Grove Chase at Gowran last week, John Murphy’s gelding was presented with about as tough three-runner race as possible with Nickname and Kicking King as opponents.
However, Newmill acquitted himself far better than he had on previous outings this season, beaten only three lengths in the end.
And as a likely warm-up for an attempt to reclaim the Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase, he will face six rivals in Sunday’s Byrne Group plc Tied Cottage Chase.
“He’s come out of the Gowran race very well and it was neck and neck as to whether we ran here or in the Red Mills Chase back at Gowran,” said Murphy.
“We decided to come to Punchestown, as who knows what the Red Mills will be like.
“We will be giving weight away to our rivals, but we were really happy with how he ran last time.”
Smart novice Cailin Alainn joins Newmill for her first run over fences of the season, having suffered two falls at the end of last term at Cheltenham.
Tumbling Dice, Albanov, Don´t Be Bitin, Final Act and Vintage Treasure complete the line-up for an event taken by Moscow Flyer on several occasions.
