Family and friends have attended a special vigil to mark the 12th anniversary of the murder of French filmmaker Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

The event took place last night at the location where the 38-year-old was found dead near her holiday home in Schull in December 1996.

Her badly beaten body was discovered just two days before Christmas.

Nobody has ever been charged in connection with her death.

A new investigation was recently opened in France and a Garda file on the case has been sent to the French authorities.
