Huge investment in fish industry

£31 million is to be invested in an attempt to promote our fish processing industry.

The announcement was made by the Minister for the Marine Frank Fahey, who said the fishing industry is worth £250 million a year in exports and stressed how essential it was that we develop our processing.

"We only add value to about 50% of our products, whereas in other countries, they add value of about 200%.

So we are selling a lot of our products in a raw state and the industry and fishermen have not been getting enough value and profits from the sector. That is now going to change," said Minister Fahey.
