The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors has expressed serious concern about the new whistleblowers' charter for the Gardaí.

Last week, the Minister for Justice appointed Brian McCarthy as the point of contact for gardaí who want to report corruption or malpractice in the force.

However under the regulations, Mr McCarthy will be obliged to ask the Garda Commissioner to investigate such complaints.

AGSI president Pascal Feeney says gardaí investigating their colleagues will do nothing to promote public confidence in the force.
