€4.7bn investment could produce 4,000 jobs in Kerry
Plans for a massive €4.7bn investment which could see the creation of more than 4,000 jobs in Tralee, Co Kerry have been revealed.
The project, which is at the development stage, would involve the creation of a Global Pharmaceutical Centre of Excellence in the town.
If this project gets the go-ahead it would be the largest research and development centre in the world and would make Tralee the biggest single centre of employment in Ireland, increasing its population by 22%.
Most of the jobs would be for pharmaceutical graduates and would be spread over 30 different campuses.
Two sites are currently under consideration, the former Amann and Klopman sites, and if it gets the go-ahead, construction will get underway in September 2012.
However, it is only in the very early stages although a project team has been appointed to examine how best to proceed with the €4.7bn plan.
