A civilian Ministry of Defence employee has been seriously injured in an explosion at a training ground near Magilligan prison in Co Derry.

A civilian Ministry of Defence employee has been seriously injured in an explosion at a training ground near Magilligan prison in Co Derry.

The man suffered serious lower body and arm injuries when the device exploded at the rear perimeter fence near Benone beach shortly before noon.

He was rushed to Causeway Hospital, Coleraine, for emergency treatment.
