Protests are expected to go ahead on Wednesday by bus and rail workers over the recent announcement that the Minister for Transport is to dissolve CIE.

Minister Seamus Brennan has announced the end of the monopolisation of all train and bus services throughout Ireland.

However, CIE workers are set to voice their opposition this Wednesday.

Traffic in cities may be affected between 1pm and 3pm on Wednesday afternoon when workers march on the streets.

Officials with the National Bus and Railworkers Union now say that their members are worried over pension schemes and job security.

The union represents more than 3,000 workers.

However, they say that the protest has been planned to minimise disruption for commuters and trade in city centres throughout the country.
