A Ferris wheel accident in the Tunisian resort city of Hammamet killed a Latvian tourist and injured six others, witnesses said today.

A Ferris wheel accident in the Tunisian resort city of Hammamet killed a Latvian tourist and injured six others, witnesses said today.

The Foreign Ministry in Riga identified the dead person as a 19-year-old woman and said her mother was among those injured in the Wednesday accident. Both had lived in Ireland.

Tunisian authorities provided no details of the incident at an amusement park in Hammamet, which is south-east of Tunis, the capital.

The injured were out of danger, Tourism Minister Tijani Haddad said.

An investigation was opened to the determine the cause of the accident.
