The driver of a packed passenger bus has been arrested for drink-driving.

The man in his forties was behind the wheel of a private coach carrying up to forty people from Waterford to Dublin for the women's mini-marathon.

Passengers noticed him driving erratically and called the Gardaí.

He was arrested at Kennedy Avenue in Carlow just before twelve o'clock today.

The brother of one of the women on the bus spoke about the incident.

“She noticed that he was swaying on the road and that he was drunk,” he said.

He said his sister could also smell drink from the driver’s breath. She phoned the Gardaí in Carlow and they came, breathalysed and arrested him.
