Strong start for ISEQ

The ISEQ index had performed well in early trading this morning, gaining 79.65 points to 6,303.63 by 11.15am today.

The ISEQ index had performed well in early trading this morning, gaining 79.65 points to 6,303.63 by 11.15am today.

The financials all did well, particularly Irish Life & Permanent, which gained 30c to €12.90. Allied Irish Bank (up 20c to €13.67), Anglo Irish Bank (up 15c to €8.85) and Bank of Ireland (up 14c to €9.83) all showed positive movement.

The biggest gains of the day so far came in the food and drink sector, with Iaws leading the way, up 50c to €15.39. Kerry Group was not far behind, shooting up 40c to €19.66. Glanbia did not fare as well however, falling 12c to €5.18.

Independent News & Media climbed 17c to €1.90 after announcing positive results this morning.

Other significant gains included Paddy Power (up 35c to €23.91), CRH (up 26c to €24.21) and CPL (up 20c to €4).
