Man in court on firearms charges

A man is to appear in court in Tipperary this evening after firearms were discovered by gardaí.

A man is to appear in court in Tipperary this evening after firearms were discovered by gardaí.

The 26-year-old was arrested on Thursday near Limerick Junction railway station after gardaí seized two guns and ammunition.

Gardaí said three other men had been released without charge, although a file is being prepared for prosecutors.

Officers on patrol near the station at around midday on Thursday spotted two men acting suspiciously.

When they were searched a sawn off shotgun, a pistol and 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition were discovered.

The other pair were detained during a follow-up operation.

The accused is to appear at a special sitting of Cashel District Court.
