Manchester United were grateful for two goalline clearances from Phil Bardsley as non-League Burton Albion threatened one of the greatest FA Cup shocks at the Pirelli Stadium this afternoon.

A youthful United line-up failed to combat a difficult surface and found themselves outplayed at times by their Conference opponents, just 12 months after the Red Devils were held to an embarrassing draw by Exeter at the same stage of the competition.

Jon Shaw and Darren Stride both thought they had given Burton a deserved lead with flicked headers from corners, but on both occasions Phil Bardsley managed to boot the ball off the line.
