Gardaí today arrested two men in their early 20s and seized three handguns following a high-speed car chase in West Dublin.

Officers from Lucan Garda station pursued a vehicle on Collinstown Road around 7am after they saw one man was wearing a balaclava.

The men abandoned their car in the Moorefield Green estate and gardaí gave chase on foot.

During the pursuit, a firearm was produced and aimed at one officer.

Garda reinforcements were sent to the area and two men were arrested after one house was searched.

Both suspects, aged 20 and 22 respectively, were detained at Lucan Garda station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

“The three handguns were found in the house. The car involved is believed to be a stolen car,” a garda spokesman said.
