There has been a paramilitary-style beating in the North.

A 15-year-old boy has suffered moderate injuries after being assaulted in west Belfast.

Eight men burst into the residence of the teenager on Glenaleena crescent just after 8am this morning.

The boy was then taken to Westbrook Court where he was beaten with iron bars and hammers according to the PSNI.

The youth has now been taken to hospital and is being treated for a broken ankle and severe bruising.

Police have now opened an investigation into the incident.
