Ceremony to honour Defences Forces members

Former servicemen and women of the Defence Forces will be remembered during a special ceremony in Co Kildare later.

The event, which takes place at the Curragh Camp, aims to recognise, honour, and commemorate Irish veterans.

Around 1,000 former members are expected to attend along with the Minister for Defence Simon Coveney and the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Conor O'Boyle.

Captain Laura Keane, spokesperson for the Defence Forces, says those who paid the ultimate sacrifice will be remembered.

"We will be remembering all veterans who have served with the Defence Forces," Capt Keane said.

"We will especially remember the 86 members who have died on overseas service on behalf of the Defence Forces while carrying out their missions UN duty overseas."
