Consultants at Cashel Hospital in Co Tipperary have recommended the cancellation of elective surgery and out-patient services from next Monday due to a strike by nurses.

The industrial action is part of a dispute over cleaning contractors. The hospital consultants said their call was made in the interest of patient safety.

The Irish Nurses Organisation has accused the South Eastern Health Board of making no attempt to resolve the Cashel row, despite receiving 17 days notice of the strike plans.
