Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an aggravated burglary in Dublin on Friday evening in which an elderly man was threatened and robbed at knifepoint.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an aggravated burglary in Dublin on Friday evening in which an elderly man was threatened and robbed at knifepoint.

The incident happened at the man's home on Mespil Road at 17:20 yesterday evening.

Gardaí are appealing for a taxi driver who picked up a man in the Lesson Street Bridge or Mespil Road area and dropped him off at the GPO on O' Connell Street to come forward.

It is believed the man may have paid his fare in sterling.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested by Gardaí in connection with this incident.

He is being detained at Pearse Street garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
