Schumacher set for two-wheel return
Seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher could be set for a return to top flight motorsport after being linked with a ride in the World Superbike series.
Schumacher, who won the last of his world titles with Ferrari in 2004 before retiring at the end of the 2006 season, has been employed as a consultant to the Scuderia for the past two years and has also tried his hand in the German IDM Superbike series.
The 39-year-old German has tested for Honda, Yamaha and Ducati in recent months, and Honda Racing’s Carlo Fiorani has now indicated there could be a place for Schumacher on the World Superbike grid in 2009.
“Michael is convinced that the German championship is right for him at the moment,” Fiorani said in quotes reported by Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“For the moment he has not asked us to race in the 2009 world championship.
“But if he wants to, there is a way for him. All he has to do is ask us.”
