Construction output down almost 25% in past year

Output in the Irish building and construction sector was almost 25% lower in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2007, according to the latest official statistics.

Output in the Irish building and construction sector was almost 25% lower in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2007, according to the latest official statistics.

The CSO says house building was down more than 50%, but non-residential construction actually increased by 4.7%.

Civil engineering work was also down 2%.
