A pedestrian is dead following an accident in west Dublin.

A pedestrian is dead following an accident in west Dublin.

It's understood that the person died after being hit by a car on Main Street in Lucan last night.

No details as to the identity of the deceased have yet been released.

Gardaí in Lucan are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.

A heavy Garda presence was at the scene this morning, and the centre of Lucan village was closed to traffic for some time.
