New figures show just over 890,000 homeowners in Ireland registered to pay the household charge as of 9am this morning.

The deadline to pay the €100 tax was March 31, and therefore anyone who now pays will be subject to a fine.

Between 1.6 and 1.8 million households in the country are liable to pay the charge, meaning approximately 50% of people still have not paid.
