The Justice Minister has been greeted with a silent protest at the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors annual conference in Sligo.

Alan Shatter is being accused of lying about the closure of Garda stations - by the President of the middle ranking Garda representative body.

In a speech delivered on behalf of Tim Galvin at the meeting - he said that the Minister did not keep Gardaí informed about the plans - as promised.

The AGSI General Secretary John Redmond said sergeants and inspectors are entitled to know where they will be working - and should be consulted:
