A conference to examine ways to address the low number of women in politics and leadership roles in Ireland will get underway in Dublin today.
The conference, entitled 'A Woman’s Place is in the World', is being organised by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and the National Women’s Council of Ireland.
It will discuss a range of women's rights issues, including violence agonist women.
The event will get underway in Dublin Castle from 9am this morning.
“Today’s conference is about celebrating what’s been achieved over the last 20 years for women, both in Ireland, but also globally,” said Orla O'Connor, director of the National Women's Council of Ireland.
“It’s marking the UN agreement, 20 years ago, which is called the Beijing Platform for Action.
“So it is an opportunity to celebrate what’s been achieved, but more importantly it’s about looking at the inequalities that still exist for women and what we need to do to overcome them.”
