More than 100 people were caught drink-driving at the height of the Christmas holidays, gardaí said today.

On Christmas Day and St Stephen’s Day 51 drivers were stopped and failed breath tests, and again yesterday the same number of motorists were found to have taken a drink.

Gardaí said check points would continue to be set up on roads around the country over the New Year period in a bid to tackle drink-driving.

A spokesman also encouraged motorists to drive within the speed limit.

Four people have been killed in road accidents so far this Christmas, bringing the road death toll this year to 364.
