At noon today, organisers announced that students involved in the fundraising challenge had to get themselves to Lake Bled in Slovenia. Up to that, the precise final location had been kept secret.

Hugh Weldon and Ahmad Mu'azzam got there first.

The event raises money for Amnesty International and St Vincent de Paul. The target is €100,000. So far, more than €57,000 has been raised.

Eighty-eight teams from eight different Irish universities were taking part. They began their journey at Collins Barracks at 9am on Saturday and had to reach the mystery destination in the Balkans within 36 hours - without paying their way to get there.

Organiser Alison Kelly said it was a tight contest.

"There were about 20 teams in the near vicinity when we released the location," she said.
