Actress Leslie Ash shared a kiss with husband Lee Chapman today as she left hospital five days after being admitted with a broken rib and collapsed lung.

The couple showed their togetherness as they posed for pictures in Ash’s hospital room shortly before she was discharged.

They released a statement stressing that her injuries were the result of an accident.

Men Behaving Badly star Ash, 43, has explained that she suffered the injuries when she hit a bedside table while having sex.

In a joint statement, the couple said they were “hurt and upset” by suggestions that Ash’s injuries were not accidental.

“There have been a number of false accusations published in the media over the last few days and we are consulting our lawyers in respect of them,” the statement said.

“As the police have confirmed, the accident that happened on Friday morning last week was purely that – an accident.

“We have both been hurt and upset by certain reports which suggested otherwise.

“Leslie looks forward to making a full recovery and we now ask the media to respect our privacy, and to leave us alone to ensure this happens as quickly as possible.”

The couple added: “We are both very pleased that Leslie is leaving hospital today. The doctors and nurses have been brilliant and we would like to thank them for all their hard work and dedication.

“We would also like to say thank you to our family, friends and all those who have sent flowers, cards and messages of good health. The support has been wonderful.”

After posing for photographs, Ash and Chapman left the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in west London at 3.30pm via a back entrance.

Clutching a large bouquet, she stepped gingerly down a flight of steps into a waiting BMW 4x4 and was driven away by her 44-year-old husband.

Police were called to the couple’s penthouse apartment in Chelsea in the early hours of Friday morning.

Officers originally arrested Chapman following the incident but he was later released without charge.

Ash said afterwards: “The injuries happened when I hit a bedside table. We were making love and this happens. How embarrassing is that?”
