Burglaries up more than 26% in third quarter of year

The number of burglaries recorded by the Gardaí in the third quarter of this year was up more than 26% on the same period last year, according to the latest crime statistics from the CSO.

The statistics agency says 7,255 burglaries and related offences were detected during the three-month period.

On an annual basis, the number of burglaries in the year up to September was 5.3% higher than the previous 12-month period.

Elsewhere, the number of murders and manslaughters was up one to 60 during the same period, while there was a slight increase in sexual offences.

Kidnapping and related offences were up 56.5%, while drugs offences were up 2.1% and weapons and explosives offences were down 0.4%.

Public order and other social code offences were down 7.3%.
