Garda and fireman killed after crash in Limerick

A garda and a fireman have been killed in County Limerick this morning.

A garda and a fireman have been killed in County Limerick this morning.

They were attending the scene of a road accident near Foynes, when they were struck by a car.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a single car collision at Morgan South near Askeaton shortly before 5.00 am.

At 5.15am a car crashed into the emergency vehicle.

A member of An Garda Síochána and a firefighter both died at the scene.

It is understood the garda was in his 50s and based at Newcastle West, while the fireman was based at Foynes.
