Callely's response 'not credible', says Green Party chairman

Ivor Callely's Senator colleagues say his defence of the ongoing allegations in relation to his expenses is not credible.

Ivor Callely's Senator colleagues say his defence of the ongoing allegations in relation to his expenses is not credible.

"I don't think it's credible" said Green Party Chairman Dan Boyle. "I think it begs more questions than it answers, if it answers anything at all."

Senator Callely issued a statement last night, his first time to address the matter since he was suspended from the Fianna Fáil Party last Tuesday.

In it he claims that he did not know how mobile phone receipts that he submitted to the Houses of the Oireachtas were issued by a company that had ceased trading.

He added that he received and submitted the receipts in good faith and that he has since refunded the money, totalling nearly €3,000, to Leinster House.
