Irish nanny may have to pay huge compensation bill over death of baby

An Irish nanny who was cleared of murdering a baby girl in the US is facing a big compensation bill, after being found civilly liable for the child's death.

Aisling Brady McCarthy was originally accused of killing baby Rehma Sabir in 2013, before all charges were dropped last year due to a lack of evidence.

Rehma's parents launched a wrongful death civil suit this year.

A judge has now entered a default judgment against her and a date will be set to determine damages, which experts say could run into the millions.

The baby's mother and father say they took the lawsuit to ensure that the nanny does not profit financially from their daughter's death.
