The Minister for Health has rejected claims that the Taoiseach has asked her to rejoin Fianna Fáil once the Progressive Democrats have completely wound down.

The Minister for Health has rejected claims that the Taoiseach has asked her to rejoin Fianna Fáil once the Progressive Democrats have completely wound down.

Speaking this afternoon at the launch of new standards for residential care for older people, Mary Harney said that no such conversation took place.

She has previously indicated that it is her preference to remain on as an Independent after the Progressive Democrats have ceased to exist.

But it was reported over the weekend that Brian Cowen asked Mary Harney to consider returning to her Fianna Fáil roots.
